Thinking about buying a new content management system for your E-commerce site? Is a customized solution too much or too complicated for you? Don't even know what a content management system is? Well, look no further because I'm going to tell you all you need to know.

Content Management Systems Content Management Systems are web based software that allows web developers to publish and sell goods and services on the internet. There are literally thousands of websites that profit from selling goods and services online, they range in size from small mom and pop hobby stores looking to make extra cash on auction sites like Ebay to the well known titans of E-commerce like Amazon. As a result, a whole new industry has sprung up to cater to their wants and needs.

Review There are 4 different levels to choose from, "ProStores Express", "ProStores Business", "ProStores Advanced", and "ProStores Enterprise". At time of publishing this article they cost $6.95, $29.95, $74.95, and $249.95 respectively.

The best thing about a ProStore is the instant boost your profit margins will receive if you're using a 3rd party payment gateway because it only charges a .5% transaction fee. Chances are, your merchant account is taking anywhere from 5% - 10% of the purchase price on every sale you make! If you're doing a $1000 a month in sales or more, the money you save in transaction charages alone would more than pay for the cost of a Pro Store. Better yet, all transactions are SSL encrypted and billed in real time which means customer information is safe, secure and charged instantly.

ProStores is also an Ebay Company, which means your E-business will be backed by one of the top internet companies in the world, with offices worldwide from Japan to Germany. You'll have many resources at your disposal, including access to its extremely popular Ebay auction site. ProStores also provides a consulting service that pairs you with an E-commerce veteran who will review your goals and needs and set up a customized E-commerce solution that fits your business model and budget.

Domain name comes standard with every ProStore subscription (Except ProStores Express) allowing you to create a domain that includes your business name. They also have professional design services that have created numerous successful site designs including the popular ZStore.

Disadvantages Unfortunately, ProStores isn't the easiest content management system to work with. While the ability to upload mass product feeds gives gives the user a huge advantage over other competitors, it lacks a simple and intuitive interface to add a manage products.

Advantages ProStores's order processing really stands out. Real time credit card processing, inventory management, and customer processing still make it a great choice for any current or potential E-merchant

Use your own domain name Quickbooks integration Different subscription levels to suit your needs and budget

Final Analysis Would I buy a ProStores system? Yes! Despite its drawbacks ProStores is a great choice because of its price. A custom system that includes all the features of the ProStores Express would cost at at least $1500 dollars! ProStores are also backed by Ebay, one of the most powerful companies on the internet today. It's a great solution for everyone from E-Commerce veterans to somebody who just started competing in the E-marketplace.

How to Start Your Own E-commerce Website
By Andy A Chen

First, You Need To Decide What To Sell

If you are fortunate enough to already have a good source where you can get products you want to sell at a wholesale or below wholesale price, then you have some work cut out for you! Make sure that your cost allows you to mark up at least 20% and still be considered competitive when compared to the price of your competition.

If you are clueless what to sell and where to buy products at wholesale prices or better, then I recommend checking out Alibaba.com which is a website that links up manufacturers from all over the world with distributors/resellers. This assumes that you have some money to invest in inventory, as you will probably need to buy a certain amount of goods to stock locally in your area so you can ship them quickly. Most of these suppliers/factories have some kind of a minimum order, so you will want to find out what that is.

Perhaps you do not want to have inventory. Perhaps you do not have the money to purchase inventory. That's okay, because you can always drop ship, which is you choose a supplier who is in the same country as you, and you use them as a fulfillment center. Basically you get the orders, your customer's payment, then you pay your cost to the supplier, and they will ship out the product to your customer on your behalf without disclosing who they are to your customers. The down side is that you will have less profit, because the warehouse has to take a cut for stocking the products, packaging it, and shipping it for you.

Import your own stuff or have local warehouses/factories drop ship for you. The choice is entirely yours.

Have Pictures And Pricing Information Figured Out And Ready For All Products

Next you need to have digital pictures of the products you will be selling. You can either take you own pictures (assuming that you have some product samples), or you can ask the wholesaler or factory for website ready photographs. Make sure you resize them so that they are not too big for websites.

Also, you will want to have the pricing information for each of the products you will sell. It would be a good idea to research each one and use a spreadsheet to keep track of your costs, the retail/msrp prices, and your selling price. Spreadsheets like Excel is great because it allows you to quickly change them across the board if you need to. You will also be able to import this ready to go data into your shopping cart in the future, which can save you a lot of time compared to entering them in the online interface one by one.

Setup Your Store Using One of Two Methods

Now you are ready to setup your actual online store! Basically, there are two ways to go about it. You can either choose to use a ready-to-go system such as YahooStores, eBay Prostores, etc., which are subscription-based services where you pay a monthly fee to use all of the features they provide, or you can choose to buy a software, and install it on a website you host somewhere else.

1. The monthly subscription service - These shopping cart services are almost turn key, just sign up, follow the step by step instructions, and you'll have a functional store in a matter of hours. That's the good thing about this type of site. The drawback is that there's a monthly fee to pay, and they usually also take a percentage of your sales as "transactions fees" which is on top of what your credit card company might charge for every transaction. Yahoo Stores is a good example of this type of subscription based all-in-one ecommerce system. Prostores (eBay's version) is also a good solution to get started.

2. The use your own software model - This is for the more experienced people who has at least built some websites before and are familiar with html, domain names, hosting, file transfers, etc. Some softwares are open source (Free) such as OS Commerce and Zen Cart, but I've found them to come with a bit of learning curve just to set up, and they don't look that great out of the box, and thus may require some serious template tweaking before they are presentable for my taste. I personally use X-cart which is a relatively inexpensive shopping cart software (starts at around $200 for the full version) that is pretty powerful right out of the gate, and has a plethora of plug-ins and after-market codes to help you do just about anything you can think of. You would need to decide what features you want before selecting the right one for your business. The benefit of going this route is that you won't have to have a hefty monthly fee nor share your profit with the provider. The drawback is that there is an upfront cost (if you choose a non open-source software), and also you would have to piece everything together such as getting a domain name, a hosting plan, a credit card or payment gateway service, SSL certificate (secure socket layer), and then tie everything together at the end.

Test Thoroughly

Whichever type of shopping cart you choose, you will need to test it well. Be sure to try test transactions out on the tow major browsers (IE and Firefox) and correct any bugs or things that don't look right. Keep tweaking so that you have a fully glitch-free store as well as one that looks professional!

Promote the site

Now that the site is setup to function, you will need to let others know so that people will come check out you site. The old adage "if you build it, they will come" is no longer true on the internet, as there is no such thing as foot traffic. If you create a site, nobody knows about it at first! You will need to study search optimization, pay per click (PPC), and various forms of advertising and promotion and decide what work is worth your time, and what you'd like to outsource. Remember, it's perfectly ok if you can't do something. Even building the site. You can always have someone else do it. Just make sure that you do know enough so no one can rip you off!

E-commerce For Everyone
By Genesis Font

The internet has gone threw many changes now currently in the Web 2.0 revolution. E-commerce has changed just as rapidly, first starting with websites and then moving on to mobile phones and smart devices. One of the main reasons for all of the change is because of the explosive growth of cable broadband and dsl. The internet community is growing larger and has enabled more people then ever before to start doing the things they wouldn't have bothered with in the dial-up days. Because of the new broadband internet providers many people are just now starting to make they're first purchases online. For the Internet economy this spells out growth and new opportunities for individuals and start-up companies to get into e-commerce as well.

While many people want to be able to start businesses online and make money from the world wide web, many are left behind because of the hurdles to getting up and running. Typically if you want to start an online business, then you must have a plan. Decide what products you'd like to sell online, and determine how you are going to acquire it. Buying items at wholesale from drop-shippers can be a nightmare, but assuming you have products to sell, you still need a good web host, merchant account to process payments, a shipping provider and a website that will really impress your visitors.

Developing an e-commerce website is a challenging experience at best, however there are many companies that exist today that can help you get started. E-commerce for everyone dot com is just such a company. They have built their business on top of the Amazon Web Services platform. With sales into the billions of dollars per year, it's no surprise that Amazon is the industry leader in e-commerce. They are to internet retail what Google is to internet search. Amazon has decided to share the wealth by enlisting website owners to sell products for them at commission rates between 4% - 10%. This means that people can make sales commissions selling products for Amazon without having to actually purchase any products before hand, simply referring the sale. Amazon handles the order processing, shipping, stocking of the products, returns and service.

E-commerce For Everyone dot com helps amazon associates by providing Amazon storefronts. An e-commerce website service where people with or without any technical skill can register a domain name and have a professional e-commerce website hosted for them in minutes. This is very similar to what ProStores did for eBay. ProStores was so successful with helping eBay sellers that eBay bought Prostores. E-commerce For Everyone (E4E) is dedicated to giving that same help to everyone interested in e-commerce by providing not just websites but, resources such as blogs, articles and they even have forums where people can interact with one another sharing hints and tips about internet retail, design, marketing and more. The e-commerce websites offered are designed to help amazon associates get started quickly and easily, with many styles to choose from and the ability to customize them, many amazon associates have been signing up and making more money.

Today, everyone can start making money online with little to no experience. Amazon and E4E make it easy for people to jump into the internet retail and create profitable businesses. While the E4E Amazon Storefronts are only a few dollars a month (almost free) to keep up and running, they pay for themselves and are easily maintained. The Amazon Associates program is completely free to join, also Amazon pays their associates monthly either by check or direct deposit. As one of the oldest and most respected associate programs Amazon Associates will help you get easily and freely get into e-commerce. E-commerce For Everyone can provide you the professional website your new e-business needs.
